Work Experience Portlet & RBP Restrictions Limitations in SAP SF Spotlight

In Work Experience card, a user can view field values from Internal Job History for which the user does not have permission to. This is expected behaviour currently, field level permissions are not respected in the Work Experience card.

A key limitation to be aware of when using SAP Spotlight with SuccessFactors Work Experience (Internal Job History) data is the lack of enforcement of Role-Based Permission (RBP) restrictions based on assignment groups.

What this means in practice:

  1. Users from one region or assignment group may be able to view Work Experience data belonging to other regions, potentially exposing sensitive employee information.
  2. This poses a GDPR compliance risk when data visibility crosses geographic or organizational boundaries unintentionally.
  3. The Work Experience portlet is also not supported on the Full latest People Profile UI from 2H 2025, limiting functionality and experience.

Current workaround:

As of now we have 2 workarounds for the Standard Work Experience portlet:

1. To restrict the visibility of the Work Experience section in Spotlight is by adjusting this RBP permission: Employee Central Effective Dated Entities > Job Information Actions (View Current)

However, this workaround hides users' job information entirely, not just the Work Experience section.

2. Go to Admin Center > Configure Latest People Profile > Choose the Spotlight option > Disable Visibility of Spotlight card.

Recommended Long-Term Solution

For customers facing this issue with the standard Internal Job History portlet, a viable approach is to:

  • Create a custom MDF object
  • Flow data from Job Information to this custom MDF object
  • Display the custom MDF object on the Latest People Profile instead of the standard Work Experience card

This approach respects RBP restrictions and aligns with the new People Profile UI.

We strongly recommend customers submit an enhancement request to SAP for introducing RBP support in the Work Experience card in Spotlight.

If you want these RBP issue to be fix for the future enhancements, SAP team will consider all enhancement requests raised in the community and will consider this request as an option for a future release.
