What is difference between Forward Propagation and HRIS Sync in SuccessFactors?

Hello,

HRIS Sync is the process that syncs data from Employee Central out to the User Data File (UDF), also called the Basic file when implementing EC. The data elements inside EC are hard coded to specific fields on the UDF or you can set up others to be mapped to the available fields within the UDF, such as the Custom fields. You can learn more about this important process in this KBA (https://me.sap.com/notes/2172427/E) or in the Employee Central Implementation guide.

Forward Propagation refers to the update of data inside of Employee Central, particularly in Job Information or Compensation Information. If you are updating data in these sections via the UI or Import, the data will be carried forward (propagated) to subsequent records. A good example would be updating an employee's Job Information by inserting a new record and only changing the Work Schedule. All of the other values would be propagated from the previous values, unless you have business rules in place to make changes if the Work Schedule is updated. These might be the Standard Weekly Hours or FTE fields. You can find additional information in the EC Guide here: https://help.sap.com/docs/successfactors-employee-central/implementing-employee-central-core/forward...
