WFA on HANA enablement

Hi @YSE-1 ,

I have a few questions on the enablement process for WFA on HANA.

In a recent project I have started I have bumped into quite a few differences when compared to past projects.

1. "Customer has Workforce Analytics license" checkbox in Provisioning

Is this checkbox something we as consultants need to switch? I have never had to do this before.

I always checked and the switch was on and that simply told me that ok there is a license in place, I can go in and import the template etc.

In my most recent project I had to actually go there and click this (was not sure that the license is actually in place as customer just recently bought it and agreed it will be in place with X date).

Then for another customer, I was asked what are the prerequisites and enablement steps and they assured me they have a license, then in Provisioning I have noticed again it is not switched.

2. "Use WFA URL Set" in Provisioning

Again, something I have never touched before myself.

In test after the above mentioned checkbox has been marked we had some other issues that SAP engineering helped with, but no mention of this "Use WFA URL Set" option.

Since we had some issues in test, I advised we should check production as soon as possible to simply enable and make sure we do not bump into the same.

In there we could not find WFA on HANA Data Factory after enabling the checkbox from #1 above so we have found this KBA: https://me.sap.com/notes/2708026/E

Again, this is not something I have ever touched before in any other WFA on HANA projects, is this some setting I should always check?

3. Measure Views

Always after importing the WFA on HANA template, I open a support ticket with SAP to request that they upload the Measure Views. Always quick and easy.

This time around, I have received the following reply:

"Good day! Enable Measure Views for WFA is part of implementation of WFA. It is done by either your implementation partner or our consultant.
You can ask this on an ask this on jam page/ workzone for consulting.
They are responsible for this, and they will be able to help you with that.
"

Even more strange, the Measure Views are in place.

Again, is this correct? Should I come here and request this instead of SAP Support?

What I am trying to understand is, for 1, 2 and 3 above, did anything change in the enablement process for WFA on HANA and I have just blindly missed the information on it?

4. "IsAnalyticsInEc">True<

I have mentioned above that we had some issue after importing the template (advanced version)

After one month of back and forth with SAP engineering they have concluded that our issue came from the template having the "IsAnalyticsInEc">True< setting and turning it off resolved the issue.

I do not know what this setting does, they have mentioned it is related to some legacy feature that went away in 2020 or so.

Now, as I am using the template provided in the original Jam Group, does the template actually have this setting on? And if so, why would it not impact all customers?

I have only once before heard of this setting for another customer, where I had a very different issue caused by it that SAP engineering has fixed in the same way, turning this setting off.

Many thanks in advance for your answers.

Kind regards,

Alex

Hi @abalasescu2 , here is response to your questions:

1. "Customer has Workforce Analytics license" checkbox in Provisioning - this is required to turn on so you can see the WFA on HANA Data Factory menu.  Usually this is already checked when someone provisioned the BizX instance and the customer has license for it.  It may also be turned on if customer want to have WFA demo cube installed in the instance.  But there is a change of process now that WFA demo cube is not always installed during BizX instance provisioned process so probably that's why you see some instances do not have this turn-on.

I am unsure if there is a background job that run to turn this off if customer has no license, you have to check with support.

2. "Use WFA URL Set" in Provisioning - this is a required setting for Advanced Reporting.  Again, usually setup when BizX instance get provisioned because EC also used Advanced Reporting for its reports.  However, since we now have embedded story, customer can opt to use story instead of Canvas report so it is possible this is not setup for certain customers.  As this is part of Advanced Reporting setup, it is not mentioned in WFA on HANA documentation.  But having Advanced Reporting is a prerequisite to implement WFA on HANA and this is mentioned in the WFA on HANA Welcome - Read me first documentation.  Support should be able to help with the setup.

3. Measure Views - Support should be able to upload the measure template.  If there was WFA demo cube installed in the instance before, there's a high chance that measure template has been uploaded before.  It is mentioned in the WFA on HANA Welcome - Read me first documentation to contact support to get measure template uploaded.  Please do not request for measure template upload in community as the people who monitor this forum may not have access to the target DC and instance to upload the measure template.

If you get different response from support, most likely those who new in the support team or never handle WFA on HANA tickets before do not know the exact process.

4. "IsAnalyticsInEc">True< - I've checked both starter and advanced template and it is setup as False for this setting.  I am not sure why Engineering said it is caused by the template.  The menu to turn off this setting is not part of WFA on HANA Data Factory and there is a setting we need to turn off in the provisioning:

Need to run "Delete Cube" to remove the cube.

Most of the time this setting already turned on for the instance.  It could be from some setup from Upgrade Center.

Hi @abalasescu2 , here are responses to your questions:

1. "Customer has Workforce Analytics license" checkbox in Provisioning - the checkbox is required so you can see the WFA on Hana Data Factory menu.  Most of the time, if the customer has WFA license, this is already checked when someone provisioned the BizX instance as a prerequisite to install the WFA demo cube on the instance.  Probably that is why you rarely need to enable this setting.  However, I think there is a process change so WFA demo cube won't be installed as part of the BizX instance provisioning.  That's why you now have to check this when doing the WFA implementation.

I am not sure if there is a process running to check this setting against the license that customers have.  You need to check with support.

2. "Use WFA URL Set" in Provisioning - from what I understand this is normally setup as part of the Advanced Reporting setup when BizX instance is provisioned.  The advanced reporting is used for EC reporting as well so this is not dependent on WFA implementation.  My guess is since there is embedded story now to use for EC, customer may not setup Advanced Reporting and opt to use only embedded story so this is not always setup now.  As this setup is part of Advanced Reporting setup, so it is never included in WFA on HANA documentation.  However, we always mentioned that Advanced Reporting is a prerequisite to setup WFA on HANA, this means Advanced Reporting must work first before you can do WFA on HANA implementation.  If it has not been setup, then it is implementor responsibility to make sure this is setup and work.  Support should be able to help you to setup this.

3. Measure Views - support should be able to help upload the measure template.  If there is WFA demo cube installed before in the instance, it probably already has measure template setup.  The community is not the place to request for measure template because we do not always have access to the DC and instance to upload.

4. "IsAnalyticsInEc">True< - I've checked both starter and advanced template and this setting is setup as False.  I am not sure why Engineering said the template cause the issue.  We never had this issue with other implementations.  Most of the time this setting is already turned on for the instance and the setting to turn off is not even in the WFA on HANA Data Factory menu.  There is also a setting we need to turn off in provisioning related to this one:

We need to run "Delete Cube" to remove the cube.
