Viva Learning & Person_id_external

Hello!

We are thinking about implementing MS Viva Learning for our organisation. In the MS docuemntation it says that the connection between Azure user and Successfactor User will be created via Azure employeeID and Person_id_external (Enable learner record sync | Microsoft Learn).

In our current setup those two IDs don't match and on Azure side a change is not possible as the ID is already used by many other applications.

We are not using Successfactors with EC so we are not actively using PERSON_ID_EXTERNAL for anything. And according to KBAs (Different IDs in SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite | SAP Help Portal) it can be changed. But can it really? Are there many implications?

You might have a different person_id_external than the Platform username or even further, different from the Bizx userID. That is fine as long as the Bizx userID matches the LMS userID that you might be using with Viva Learning. I think SAC and IAS issues may be encountered when these different or more specifically when using Learning-only users & learning-only IAS, but unsure of other area of applications or other modules where you may be integrating Viva into that could have any impact as it mostly works still for LMS features.
