Update field via Employment Details Import (Import Employee Data): Blocked by Hire Date

Hello everyone,

I need to pick your brains on a Data Import issue I’m facing 🙂

I would like to make a massive update of the value of a field for all records via Import Employee Data with an import of the Employment Details data, however, the field Hire Date is mandatory when making an import there. Therefore, I get an error after uploading an import including the (mandatory) field Hire Date.

A bit of context:

A colleague created a custom Field for the UDF in business configuration. It was created because the LMS system needs it.

This custom field reflects the value from the “Is Contingent Worker?” field from the Employment Details portlet. However, the custom field in the UDF can only be populated if a change is saved on the Employment Details Portlet.

For this reason, I wanted to change massively the field “Notes” in Employment Details. It is empty on all records so I could just add a dash or a period in the field and import the file to trigger the population of the UDF custom field “Contingent?” for all employees.

Unfortunately, I’m blocked by the field Hire Date when I try to do the import. I also tried to put &&NO_OVERWRITE&& in the Hire Date column, but I got an error when I did this too.

To make long story short: It looks like I can’t use Import Employee Data to import Employment Details changes on existing records.

Do you know any other way I could do an import of that data? “Import and export data” is for Generic Objects, so that’s not possible. Import Extended Information is for Personal Data.

Thank you in advance for your help !

Happy Friday

Hello Roman,
I have encountered the same issue, and found no work around. Taking the extra time to determine each employee's Hire Date and then incorporating that date field (unchanged) into the import template has been my only solution. Regards, Jeff
