tracking external certificates in LMS

I'm trying to track externally completed training certificates in LMS that are attached to learning item so I can run reports with the information and learners can get notifications when they are nearing expiration. In theory I would like the system to generate an expire date based off of the learning item. For example, if they upload a safety certificate that was completed on Jan 1, 2024 the system will automatically log the expire as Jan 1, 2027. 

Am I creating the item incorrectly? Or is this something that is not possible?

@bdtrainer, as it stands, it wouldn't be possible to be achieved. It's worth to try a course retraining (Retraining in SAP SuccessFactors Learning Curricula). Then, the 3-year period would be considered by the system after the given course completion (retraining event based).
