A staff has entered wrong travel dates which fall in future like instead of selecting september he has selected october and it got approved from all levels till payment is made thru payroll. system is not allowing to change the dates please suggest how can make changes in dates.

Changing trip dates can result into financial implications, like per diem calculation, etc, therefore it is not a kind of formal attribute that can be easily changed after the approval.
The trip should be cancelled and the new approval process to be initiated for a new trip.

There is no standard function to do it, at least as far as I am aware.
If it is a common issue you can create a Z program that does the dates change.
You just need to be very careful not to introduce any data inconsistencies, because if you have a payroll integration it can probably impact the period in which the trip is accounted for. So, you will need to test well end to end multiple scenarios for dates changes.
The standard practice is always to reverse/cancel and repost, at the end approvers should take the approval process more seriously.
Honestly it must be a one off type of case, so the Z program is probably not a good idea, as it will "legalise" the abnormal situation fixes.
