Synchronize, Check Out, Update & Load

May I know what is the differences between Synchronize Workarea, Check Out Objects, Update from Server and Load from Server?

• Synchronize Workarea: Check the server for new versions of all objects you have set as 'applicable for synchronization'.
• Check Out Objects: Select objects to be 'applicable for synchronization'.
• Update from Server: Get the latest copy of the object from the server.
• Load from Server: Start synchronizing an object you have previously said you don't want to synchronize but that is a child of an object you are currently synchronizing.
