Is the a limit in the number of custom background element fields in the SF succession data model?

But it is still not clear to me exactly how many fields i can have per background element block..

Is it 13 char fields (vfld1- vfld13), 5 date fields (dfld1 - dfld5) etc. for each block, or across all blocks?
