Successfactors integration to Business ByDesign using a Middleware(SAP CPI)

Good Morning,

I am an Integration intern and have been tasked to create an Integration between Successfactors Employee Central using Successfactors Adapter(SOAP/REST) with Business ByDesign using a CPI. I've done some reasearch and i haven't seen a post or blog that addresses that kind of an Integration.

I'd like to know that does the integration involve a middleware or it directly happens between the two above mentioned Systems ?
