Success factors learning - Assigning training using assignment profiles

Hello,

I know there are different ways to assign a training to a user in the LMS part of Success factor.

I need to understand the assignment profiles way to assign training:

Is it mandatory to manage them ? If yes, in which cases ?

Is the assignment equal to the validation ? I mean, if the training is assigned to a user, is there another validation needed in the process ? (I guess it depends on the process implemented).
