Success Factors application error when updating employee email

I have started to get employee tickets that SAP flips their email from their company email to their personal email and I am unable to have them flipped back and get an application error that gives me no more information. I have to delete the personal email to get it removed from the banner but the work email doesn't replace it.

Dear zoombomb1,

Do you have any business rule that is defaulting the email (business or personal) and also marking as primary?

The behavior that you are describing cannot happen without any business rule or data load, so maybe the next question is if you are loading email data from external system?
