SF LMS Event Based Integration

Hello,

Does anyone have any experience implementing event-based integrations with SuccessFactors Learning, using SAP SF Intelligent Services?

The goal is to replicate learning completion data to downstream systems in a timely manner (as close to real-time as possible). 

I'm looking for any insight on IS or any use cases that have allowed customers to retrieve completion data from LMS and publish it to downstream systems on a consistent basis for real-time compliance requirements.

What do you need in detail? We’ve setup a learning completion event based integration.

@FrankKrause- Is your integration using Intelligent Services? We are looking to gather any details on how this was completed/what is the process flow for your organization, meaning how the event based triggered data is retrieved from SFLMS and sent to the downstream system(s) you may be using. What is your data volume?

The current process flow we are referencing is as follows: LMS Item Completion > Learning Event tracked in Intelligent Services > Middleware > OData API > Data Store (Repository) > Downstream Systems (via webservices). This process is not definite, and we are open to additional or different recommendations to reach our end goal. 

Does your solution allow you to retrieve completion data from LMS and publish it to downstream systems on an ongoing basis for real-time compliance validation?

Hi @MelanieBelzile , yes we use Intelligent Services in our integration.

In SF LMS Admin we've configured the Service event bus (flag sebPublishedEventTypes[LearningCompletion]=true) and have set up in Intelligent Services an "Event Connector". Within the Event Connector you define the endpoint where the event message shall be delivered to. In our setup we've chosen SAP CPI.

Here, we receive the event, read "total hours" from SF LMS via SF LMS OData API and map all the information for the target application. From the target application the CPI iFlow receives the response if delivery is/was successful and passes it to SF.

From my experience this integration was pretty slim and is state-of-the-art. And its (almost) real-time (2 sec. from SF LMS to target system).

Can you clarify if the 'total hours' is coming separate to the completion event that is called in Intelligent Services? Do you then grab total hours from a separate API to gather additional data together for your external system?

As well, what is your approx. volume of users in LMS? As you mention this is 'almost real time', I am curious how many events are called on a consistent basis for your organization.

Lastly, can you confirm that the 'Event Connector' in IS, is calling only NEW completion events/records? Or is it calling all learning history in your system?

here are my replies: 
Can you clarify if the 'total hours' is coming separate to the completion event that is called in Intelligent Services? => yes, comes separately and is not part of completion event.

Do you then grab total hours from a separate API to gather additional data together for your external system? => yes from SF LMS API

As well, what is your approx. volume of users in LMS? As you mention this is 'almost real time', I am curious how many events are called on a consistent basis for your organization. => in average 800 events per week day

=> in SF BizX IS, it is the event Connector. Via SF LMS API we retrieve the employee’s last learning history record (not all).

Regarding your last response "in SF BizX IS, it is the event Connector. Via SF LMS API we retrieve the employee’s last learning history record (not all)." -  What data comes in the event connector?? Does it extract User ID, and Item ID + Completion Date?

Our team is unsure of the Intelligent Services feature, and looking to grasp what data points it really grabs for you from the LMS?

If you cannot access the stock fields in the second template (which it appears you cannot), then the template itself does not include a stock section. You will need to modify the XML to make sure there is a "comp-include-stock" tag.
