Hi,
I am one of the administartors of my SEN. I have created simulation template with start and end pages. I want those to be reflected to all of the master authors in my workarea. Whenever they create a simulation, they(including me) should get the template by default like this (Refer screenshot). Can you please help me in this ?

And also can you explain if I must need to be an admin to do this ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Mani,

To setup that template as the default you will need to:

1. Open Producer
2. Start Editing the Resources > Configurations > Default object

3. Select Tools > Settings and open the Producer > Templates settings

4. Click the pencil icon beside the Simulation Project field and select your new template
5. Click Save to save the change to the settings
6. Finish editing the Default Configuration Resource so that the change is pushed back to Manager
7. Have the other authors restart Producer

You will need to be an Administrator or Master Author to change settings, based on standard roles and permissions.

Shane

Thanks for the reply Shane. I have implemented the above procedure. It worked. Can you also please tell how to do the same with default descriptions ?

Is it possible to assign default settings which will be reflected to all master authors in my workarea? Example situation: ( I need to disable allow hover over effects option to all the master authors) ?

Hi Mani,

If you don't want authors modifying Settings, remove the permission that allows them to change the Resources (Resources: Edit). If they don't have that Permission, they cannot edit the Settings.

It sounds like your content templates already have some form of hover over action. If this is an issue, remove the Design Roll-Over function from the content template and this may update the corresponding book pages when the content is published again.

If you are concerned about authors modifying templates, remember that you can use the Revert Object function to open and use an older version; if someone makes a change that is not required. Outside that, you would need to check out the templates and prevent authors from cancelling your editing control of the object by removing the Permission Content: Cancel Editing.

Hey Mani,

OK understand. When you create your Simulation template, please ensure that you add the relevant information to the Description or Short Description field on the Simulation template. When that template is used by authors, the Description and Short Description are automatically added to the new Simulation.

The following is the information on my Simulation template.

Hi Mani,

It is possible to modify settings and then have those settings default for individual authors but it's not possible to prevent authors accessing functionality such as hover over. If you want to change the default authoring behaviours, in most instances you will need to setup the Adaptable Resources > Authoring Settings. If you want to remove functionality, you should look at modifying the Permissions assigned to the authoring roles.

So I should contact each master author and ask them to change the hover over settings. Am I right ?
Another questions that Pops in my mind is Will it not create a chaos if master authors keep on changing (say) defualt template frequently ? So I thought this can only be done by admin. But its not.

Hi Mani,

Not sure what you mean by default descriptions. Just let me know a little more detail and I will take a look.

Just like above implementation of simulation template, whenever my master authors create new simulation, they should get the description by default. The description box will be something like
Name : xxxxxx
Tcode : xxxxx
Menu Path : xxxxx-> xxxxx -> xxxxx -> xxxxx
Related documents : xxxxx
While editing the simulation, master authors will replace those xxxxx and provide relevant SAP inputs.
Please guide me how to achieve this.
