Dear All

I have been recently assigned on a project to implement E-Recruitment and I have absolutely no idea about this module.I have gathered a lot of materials from various sources including SAP Help. But still I am not very sure about how to start.I am also not very sure about what the role of BASIS Consultant and ABAPer will be in this implementation. Is this module any way realted to Net Weaver?

So I ask all who have implemented e-recruitment to kindly assist me and giv me a step by step knowledge about how to start and carry forward.

If possible please provide me with some real time cofiguration document aof this module.I promise to keep everything confidential.

I really look forward for a positive reply.

Please do not send me links of HELP SAP about e-recruitment as I already have all those.

Thnx in advance

Hi,

before installing anything first thing you do is getting clear about your e-recruiting landscape. As this is not just another HR module due to the link to the public internet. This is usually quite a bigger discussion as you need guys from HR, data security, firewalls / network security to agree on sth.

Based on the result of this discussion you decide for one of the possible installation options: integrated/standalone, 1-server/2-server. This decision tells you which systems you have to set up and what to install on them.

Thnx

So I get some idea now.

Now please tell me, what do I tell my BASIS cOnsultant to do initially.

Moreover Can u briefly describe the landscape of E-Recruitment?

What is to be installed by people in this project apart from me so that I can start configuration?

What i should demand from the Client as the pre requisite for this implementation?

Please Help

Hi,

for the landscape the first and most important decision is about standalone or integrated installation. Do you want to use an existing HR Core server (PA, OM, PY, ...) and add E-recruiting there or do you want to use a standalone implementation. This question is not easy to answer. In my consulting area nearly all systems are standalone installations due to the high data security requirements. Integrated installations are very rare.

Of course both solutions have their pros and cons. From my experience standalone systems are easier to implement (only the server administration will hate you as it takes more servers). There are a lot of things to take in account from business to IT strategy, network infrastructure issues, data security, data access / rights mamagement, support / SLA questions and many more. Usually it takes several workshops to get to a decision here.

If you agreed to one of the 2 posibilities next question is which application frontend you want to use. BSP is older and lacks a bit support for new features but is more stable as more productive installations exist. WebDynpro is newer so new features will mostly be done in this frontend but it is less stable. In addition WebDynpro offers the posibility to use a 2 server installation. In this you use a WebAs as proxy to the server for data storage so you can implement another layer of security as the server which really holds the data can be put deeper / into better protected areas of the companies network.

If you use a standalone installation you have to set up a WebAs with E-recruiting and the necessary requirements documented in the installation guides. If you want to use 2 server installation you will have to set up 2 servers of course. In case of an integrated solution the packages might already be installed as e-recruiting 600 should be part of ERP2005. If it's not already there you might have to add some packages.

Independent from this you have to install a TREX server as search engine. Set it up and integrate to the e-recruiting.

Hi Roman,

I am a little bit surprised to read about Web Dynpro for e-recruitment. We have just followed the course e-recruitment at SAP last week and we have understood that anything was BSP. So now I read that we have to choose between BSP and WebDynpro ? Can you explain a little bit more please ?

From wich version is e-recruiment also available in WebDynpro ?

You also mentionned " If you use a standalone installation you have to set up a WebAs with E-recruiting and the necessary requirements documented in the installation guides"

I don't understand exactly. Do you mean that for a standalone installation WebDynpro is the best solution ?

Kind Regards

Hello Pascale,

currently e-recruiting brings 2 different frontends for candidates. You can choose between BSP frontend and WebDynpro frontend. The WebDynpro frontend is available since E-Recruiting 600 SP 07 or 08 but I would not recomment setting it live with lower than SP11. The recruiter views are currently BSP only, This shall change with EhP4 as far as I heard. I have no idea why the SAP course is not up to date with that, but according to SAP solution mgt. / SAP sales the first going lives with WebDynpro were Volkswagen AG and Rasselstein both live around september last year. Perhaps noone had time to change the course material within the last 6 months.

The question if BSP or WebDynpro is better is a difficult one. BSP is older, more tested and more stable and as you use the same technology for recruiter and candidate things have less complexity. On the other hand BSP is a dead end. All new functions for the candidate frontend which were released within the last months were WebDynpro only. E.g. new standard fields, double email entry to check misspelling, data sec. declaration for manually entered candidates etc. all are WebDynpro only.

The decision standalone vs. integrated is for me easy. STANDALONE! I have done one of the few integrated rollouts in the DACH area (to be honest I only know 2 other installations beeing integrated but these 2 are TM only) and various standalone so far - all already in production and believe me, integrated is hell g. If you have structural authorization in your HR core you will learn that SAP completely forgot to think about the consequences for e-recruiting in integrated systems.

If you decide for standalone and WebDynpro last question is 1 or 2 server scenario. The 2 server scenario was planned to improve security for integrated systems but so far different installations use this to cover the standalone server. The first server is a WebAs working as a "proxy" which is connected to the server holding the data via trusted RFC connection. This allows more flexibility whgen placing the servers in the different firewall layers. Of course 2 servers are more expensive than 1.

The reference to the installation guides just meant that they define the dependencies of kernel, bc /aba SP and e-recruiting SP. Your base administration should be familiar with that.

Hi Roman,

In view of the fact that you know a lot of e-recruitment and also about the versions of SAP I have another question.

In the course a week ago we have had a document "Special Talent Management Feature Pack" wich consist of feature pack

I : New composite Talent Planner Role

II : New PD object : Job Family

Sucession Planning

III : Recruiter support

IV : Technology / Integration - ESA enablement

UI enchancements

V : Search enchancements

For al those feature packages in the information is mentionned "First Delivery planned for end of Q2 2006"

Do you know of al those feature packages are already available and if yes , from wich version ?

Kind regards

Hi Pascale,

i am not sure which delivery this is. Probably I heard of it under another name. might be a part of the functional additions with e-recruiting support package 5 or 7. The information on these enhancements can be found in the download section for documentation on e-recruiting in the sap service market place.

The up to date functional description should be the the documentation on E-Erecruiting 600 + Enhancement Package 3 for E-Recruiting. As far as i heard EhP3 should be out of the ramp up now and available to all customers. I expect that this documentation is also available in the service market place. (havn't checked yet as i got it directly from sap development while supporting a rampup project, unfortunately it's not in english)

Btw. there is no e-recruiting EhP 1 or 2. E-Recruiting did not take part in these enhancement cycles. The development of EhP4 is currently starting and shall be released at the end of the year. I think there are already some announcements what will be part of the developments at the last hr partner meeting at sap. But I am ot sure where to find this info on the web.
