In this Month's release (2309) there is a configuration change option referenced in COM-78580 around positions finalized by position group. I have tried finding more information around this configuration to better understand its function. Is there more information around this outside of what is provided on the What new document for 2309

Hey Jay,
Here is what I knew about this topic. If you have a scenario like below -
Scenario - If a position is assigned to already Finalized position group, current system functionality generates payments in the same period if there are earnings (due to retroactive calculations) on this position.
With this Improvement COM-78580, product team is offering an option for customer to configure the behaviour of Finalize position group. As per release notes -
"A new preference pipeline.pay.finalizePositionByAddingToGroup is added to enable you to configure the behavior of Finalize Position by Group. When this preference is enabled, pipelines will consider the position finalized if it is assigned to a position group which ran the Finalize stage. This preference is disabled by default. Contact support to enable this option on your tenant.
Note: When this preference is enabled, moving position out of the finalized position group must be avoided because this can cause data corruption issues."
By enabling the setting, in the mentioned scenario, system generates balances and carry forward to future periods if there are any earnings (generated due to retroactive calculations) on this position.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Srinivas
