Hi,
If I want to export resources from workarea (A) to another workarea (B) (B has been newly created and set as extended). In this scenario should I delete the existing resources file of workarea (B) ?
Thanks!!
Request clarification before answering.
Assuming you have not created your own custom resources, it should just overwrite the existing resources with the new ones (because the UIDs are consistent across implementations - all taken from the same SAP source). Start the Import function and it will show you which files it will overwrite, and which ones are new. If it doesn't overwrite the existing ones (somehow they have different UIDs) then you will need to make sure your new ones are used as the defaults, wherever necessary.

So when I tried to import resources from a workarea to the other, a window showing me all files in resources opened. Inside this window only some of the files were selected so I kept this selection and proceeded with the import. However, I am not sure which files got overwritten? Can you please clarify this again I'm not sure I understood your point ? Thank you!
Well, in that dialog box that shows only some of the objects selected, there's a checkbox at the bottom called Show Details. If you select that then it will display a column on the right that indicates whether the files will be imported / replaced / downgraded. Bit late now, though. Sorry.
Hi lynnabb,
In your scenario with the extended workarea, yes, you need to delete all the "native" resources of the workarea B to be able to 1:1 extend it from the workarea A. Otherwise "native" workarea B resources won't be replaced by the "foundational" resources from the workarea A.
Full resource deletion for that case is only possible in Manager.
1) Select the Resources folder in the Workarea B
2) Click Delete - Delete Tree in Manager (right side of the screen)
3) Clean up the Trash folder in the Workarea B
4) Go to the Administration - Workarea/Tags and extend the workarea B the from the workarea A
5) You'll see that ALL resources of workarea B are taken and synced with the resources from the workarea A.
So, if you decide to make some global changes i.e. introduce the new Color Pallete or Trainer Bar, you will do it in the Workarea A, so other workareas that are extended from the Workarea A, will get this update immediately.
At the same time, content developers can still override global resources in the extended workareas, by fetching them first.
Kind Regards,
Anton
