published-start-link-producer.pngIf I want to share a published URL Link to Learning Content I can share the published Version via Manager ~/tag/published or also via Producer under Start Links (..../pub/.....)

Which URL is recommended to use? Thanks in Advance

If you want to use Manager tracking, you need to use the /~tag/published/ version. (At least that was the original directive, and I've not heard that it has changed...). You don't need to go into Manager to get this - just enter (e.g.) https://client.enable-now.cloud.sap/wa/workareaid/~tag/published/ in the Custom Prefix property in Producer, then you can just pull the URL from the Custom Location Start Link.

Okay, You mean by that if I want to use reports within manager I need to use the published tag version. I know about the custom prefix. You can also use it if you want to publish content to a specific web server as far as I know.

Correct. That's it's intended use (for publishing to a web server) but I co-opt it to get the 'tracking' URL. And yes, for the Manager reports. At least that's my understanding. When that functionality was released there were requests to have the 'pub' URL also trigger tracking, but I haven't heard it was ever done (besides, /pub/ also works with Anonymous so it may not be possible). Happy for SAP to correct me...

Maybe it is a stupid question but when I add the manger ~tag published URL in the Custom Prefix then under Start-Links (Custom-Location) it appears for every object in my content tree. Does this really trigger a publication of the specific object because I don´t want to publish every object in the content tree but once I add the Custom prefix for the workarea the Start Link Custom Location is filled for every object. I can not imagine that this really trigger the publication of the specific object ...I hope it is clear what I mean... sorry ^^

Just because there is a link in the Custom Location that has "published " in it does not mean the object is published - or that the link is valid. That link won't work unless the object has been published.

Hi Katharina,

both links work fine, so technically it doesn't matter which one you use. I like the /pub/ one more, because it's simpler and easier to get out of Producer when I'm working with it anyway. In Manager you have to switch to the tag:published, which is more effort.

Hope this helps and please mark this question as answered if it did.

Take care,

Kristina
