Linking simulations from different workareas

Hi, I was wondering if there is any way to link a simulation from another workarea. If the linked simulation is updated it should also impact in the published view.

Thanks

Hi Mariana,

If you want to use a simulation from a different workarea you have to use the start link with the full Manager URL of the project. From your comment I understand, that you want to link the simulation in a book page. This cannot be done with the demo link object. But you can create an image object with the same image of the demo link object and for the link you can insert the start link of the project from the other workarea.

When using the start link make sure to copy the link with the published tag. The start link can be seen in the workarea view for an selected object.

Best regards,
Steffen

Ohhh, that makes more sense - linking from a Book Page; I interpreted the question as wanting to include it in the Groups structure. Yeah, what Steffen said, then 😉

You mean you want to include a simulation from Workarea A inside a Group in Workarea B? No, not possible. You would have to export from A, import into B - and then it would he a 'point in time' copy. Depending on how much you need to do this, you could Base B on A, then you would have visibility of the A simulation in B - but this only works for a 1:1 (you could Base B, C, D, off A, but you can't base C off A and B, for example).

There may be an option to include the simulation from A in B by using a URL on an HTML page (in B), but I don't know it would look correct during playback or if you'd have nested progress bars / controls, etc...

I cannot edit the link on the 'demo' button neither, do I?

Thanks for answering

No, you can't edit what the play buttons point to. They will always point to the 'parent' content object, with the mode appended to it.
