Import Job Profile Short/Long Description, WITH formatting?

Hi,
So, last time we updated all the Job Profile Short Descriptions (July 2022) we could use formatting in the import data.

For example <ul><li> to make lists, <span> for formatting color, and such.

However, now this is throwing an error message. Searching for this error leads me to this: https://me.sap.com/cases/002075129400005305842023
It states we have to use escaped characters for &, < and >. ( So < should be <)
After replacing all the import is finally working again, but it is now treating the formatting as pure text, and not formatting. So the formatting is now displayed as standard text.

Even tried importing through Manage data and not job profile import but still the same.
If I try to add formatting (html) in the short description editor it's also entered as pure text. Only way I'm able to add formatting now is if I edit the Job Profile MDF through Manage Data. Adding formatting there will be treated as actual formatting.

So, anyone else experience this? How are we supposed to import/mass-update job profiles with formatting now?

Any help would be much appreciated! 🙂

Agree 100%. We live on JPB, and as the administrator it is very frustrating to be unable to import formatted content.

EUREKA! (-ish...) I've been able to import formatting, though inconsistently.

I was able to import this into Long Description with no issues:

<p><u><b>Education:</b></u></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor Degree or equivalent in relevant field of study (recent college grad) </li> <li><b>Education Equivalency: </b>Associate Degree plus 2 years related exp OR 4 years related exp</li> </ul> <p><br /> <u><b>Work Experience:</b></u></p> <ul> <li>No professional experience</li> <li></li> <li></li> <li></li> <li><b>Military Equivalency: </b>https://www.mynextmove.org/vets/find/military</li> </ul> <p><br /> <b><u>Certifications:</u></b></p> <p><em>none listed</em></p>

However, attempting to import this into Long OR Short Description failed:

<p><b>New Job Classification: </b>Associate Client Experience Specialist (JOB009P1)</p> <p><b><u>HRBP Review/Update</b></u> <br />By:_______________<br />Date:_______________</p>

I removed all formatting, and began validating imports one line / code at a time - starting with just "<b>Job Classification</b>". After more than a dozen iterations / attempts, I was able to successfully load this into a Short Description section:

<p><b>New Job Classification:</b> Associate Client Experience Specialist (JOB009P1)</p> <p><b>HRBP Review Date &amp; Name:</b></p>

Although I was not able to load the formatting exactly as I initially intended, I consider this a "win".

Therefore, my recommendation is to validate loads starting with no formatting and adding to that one code at a time. Also, don't count on one successful load to mean that those codes will work in any other load.

Ex: "< br/>" and "<br>" worked in the load I pasted first, but when I tried to include those in the second load it failed - even after going through line by line, code by code.

I reached out to SAP Support Expert Peer, and the end result was this:
(note: I asked if we could use Java Script, BBCoding, etc.)

I understand your feeling....JPB is probably not the most user friend part in the system. If I were you, I might export the existing data, removing all the non-supported characters in the csv, and then import again.

I don't think other coding would work either in this case.

Hopefully all of this helps you load at least SOME formatting into your Job Profiles.

Good luck!
Tara
