How to enable Google text-to-speech to function with the text-to-speech override macro?

We would like to use the Google text-to-speech to function with the text-to-speech override macro in 2005, but how do we set that up? Is there a script we need to use, or does some other setting need to be changed?

How to Generate Google TTS 1.Select the course (book object) you want to add Google TTS to (Work Order Planning course in this example). Right-click the book, point to More, and select Start Editing All Objects.

2.Click OK on the pop-up that appears.

3.Select the course object and click Tools > TTS_ExtractbooktexttoProject

Make sure to do this from the tree – do not edit

4.The Parameter pop-up appears. Clear the Run only check for TTS Text check box

5.Click OK

  • 6.The TTS project is generated in the Unsorted folder. Double-click to open the TTS project
  • 7.To generate TTS for all book pages, click Edit > Select All to select all pages in the left pane
8.Select Tools > Text to Speech > Google Cloud Text-to-Speech
  • 9.The Google Cloud Text-to-Speech pop-up appears. Select the All Steps option
  • 10.Paste the Google TTS API key in the API Key field
  • 11.Select the desired voice from the Voice for en-US drop-down (en-US-Wavenet-C (FEMALE) is the recommended option [used for NRG S/4HANA courses])
  • 12.You can drag the Speed slider to the recommended speed—0.95 or 1, 0.95 being a little slow-paced)
  • 13.Click OK to generate the TTS (voice-over)
  • 14.TTS will be applied to all steps. Click OK
  • 15.You will see the audio icon () against each book page in the left pane, when TTS is applied. You can click the icon to listen to voice-over
16.Next, to import the TTS into the course, click Tools > TTS_ImportAudioFromProject 17.The TTS is applied to all book pages. You will see the star icon on all book pages, indicating that an update has been made (which, in this case, is the TTS applied)

18.Right-click the course book, point to More, and click Save All Objects to Server

19.Next, to listen to the TTS for pronunciation, double-click to open the course book. Click the Add audio icon. The Add Audio window appears showing the list of all book pages

20.Select each page and click the Play icon on each slide to listen to the TTS

21.If any TTS /pronunciation edits are required, you can make the edits in the TTS text in the Notes section

22.Click OK

Note: If any TTS edits are made, you need to repeat all steps until now (Steps 1–22) to generate the TTS again.

  • 23.Once satisfied with the TTS text and pronunciation, navigate to the course book and refresh each book page. Right-click each book page one by one and select Refresh Object. This ensures that voice-over (audio files) are reflected on the Manager
  • 24.Save all objects to server and finish editing
25.Once TTS generation process is complete, play the course once from the Manager to ensure audio is reflected and voice-over plays. To play the course from the Manager, navigate to the desired course folder and select the course book

26.Click Play in the right pane

Hope this helps

Thanks, Jesse. Should we follow these same steps for using Google TTS in simulations as well as books?

Hi Jesse Bernal

thanks for the help on this. I work with Evan, we are also trying to get the text to speech override to utilize the google voice as well. Is this part of the update. Is there a way to do this?

Thank you,
Joe Arce
