External Code is primary key of that object, if changed, all relation with this object will be inconsistent and should not appear in the employees holiday calendar information. Nonetheless you can create a second one and make a MASS UPDATE to that field in job info and use a more generic one, where there is no an specific date on external code and name (best practice), just incorporating by date the new holidays...

In addition to what Amilcar answered, you can change the name of the object (Holiday Calendar) without any impact to associated employees.
