I have used Enable Now to build simulations and eLearnings for a long time, but new to SAP Companion and excited to use it. But I ask myself the question that if I can create/use focused Guided Tours, would I ever go back to creating simulations in Producer?
Creating simulations would just be limited to non-SAP applications and complex scenarios involving multiple windows/tabs? Or perhaps when I want to embed them in a book or to create an exercise book? Now that I started writing, I did find a few use-cases but it will be good to get some validation.
Please advise.
There's a conceptual difference between the two, in that Simulations are best suited for use in training, and Guided Tours are in-the-flow-of-work help.
With that in mind, my recommendation is always to consider Guided Tours first: what business tasks can you get by providing NO training, and just tell users if they need help to pull up the GT. If providing just a GT for use 'on the job' is not sufficient - either you NEED to train users in advance, or it is a complex task - then go ahead and create a Simulation. But that's just me. I'm happy to hear other p.o.v.s.

Also, consider the application recognition quality. Guided tours require great object-level recognition. If the application cannot provide it, then you'll end up with a never-ending struggle to make your guided tours guide, not mislead 😉
There is a great SAP Note called 2305663 SAP Companion Restrictions. Friendly advice: get familiar with it.
