Goal Management | Option "Link to another Employee's goal"

Hi SF Performance & Goals experts,

I've discovered a new option in Goal Management called "link to another Employee's goal" when clicking on the dropdown menu of a goal:

I've tested it in SF test system recently - however, I haven't been able to find out what this functionality exactly does...

Unfortunately, I haven't found any further information on the SAP Help portal (Implementation guide) - does anybody of you know more about it?

As it is already live in production, I hope you could help me with the following questions:  

• what this option does
• your experiences with this drop-down functionality 
• if there is a possibility to turn it off / hide in case you don't want to use it
