Global Benefits - Optional Life Insurance Purchasing - 50+ Options and 50+ Rate Charts

Within the Global Benefits pattern for Insurance Coverage you can pick Amount, Factor, and Other from a picklist. This covers most insurance coverage options.

You would use Factor to dynamically calculate a benefit salary/coverage based on data coming from the Compensation module via Pay Components and Pay Groups. This can be used with rounding rules for coverage reequipments like 2x Annual Salary with a 200K max rounded down to the nearest 1000th.

You would use Amount for fixed coverages like you want to purchase $100,000 of coverage.

Then these coverages would be attached to their own Insurance Rate Chart. The rate chart also uses Coverage and Insurance Plans as Keys. So it may look like you can reuse a rate chart, but you really can't.

The issue I'm having has to do with purchasing variable amounts of coverage that falls within a range. Example, employees can decide if they want to purchase $10,000 to $500,000 of coverage in $10,000 pieces/chunks/units.

In the Classic SAP HCM you would be able to setup a plan that someone could enter the number of units they wish to purchase. In this case 1-50 units of $10,000 in coverage would be the same as making 50 fixed coverage entries from 10,000 to 500,000.

However, the problem is that in Global Benefits today would need to make 50 coverage options using fixed amount which won't be the end of the world, but they would also need to repeat the cost chart 50 times. This isn't ideal if you have multiple age, gender, smoking, location, and other elements within your rate chart. Repeating that 50 or more times would be hard to support and won't be a good design long term.

Option 1: I could also make a pay component to allow a user to enter a value and use the factor option to pull in this amount, but that may have impacts on comp and isn't ideal from a user perspective. It would be confusing.

Option 2: Create the 50 coverage and 50 rate charts

Option 3: I'm not sure if you can use additional fields for benefits and business rules.

Option 4: Work with the sap community to find options or see if we can get a solution developed by SAP. I do have a ticket opened as well, but want to explore the options available.
