Formal name does not always update when change is made to preferred name

Hi,

Our formal name consists of the preferred name & the last name. For some reason, when the preferred name or the last name changes, the formal name is sometimes updated, and sometimes not.
We have been searching for a long time now how that is possible, because we don't see any consistency in these errors.

Did anyone face the same problem and where was the error in your system?
Would anyone have a suggestion where to look for the problem?

Is this something new in the upcoming fall release?

I have already made a business rule in our sandbox, I had started out with a similar rule as yours, but then I switched to a rule which simply removes all content in the formal name with an onsave rule. It works, but considering the inconsistency in the set-up as is (without the rule) I cannot shake the idea that this is a plaster on a wooden leg. And I'd rather get to the bottom of this.

I also cannot shake the idea that the solution is realy really simple :-)) , but I can't see it.

Any other thoughts?

Hi,

The new name formatting features should solve this.

However, you can just create a business rule 'on save' for the personal information portlet that populates the Formal Name with Names. Example here from one of mine:
