Error while adding a goal - Cannot set properties of undefined (setting 'textContent')

Dear All,

We are currently preparing to migrate to the latest Goal Management. During our testing in the preview instance, we encountered an issue and would appreciate your insights.

Issue Summary:
Employees are only allowed to add goals via Performance Forms (we do not allow them the access to Goal Plan page) .
When they initially click "Add Goal" button in the performance form, they see an error: "Cannot set properties of undefined (setting 'textContent')".
And after closing the error and trying again, the goal can be added successfully without issues.

SAP team provided a solution that we need to enable the RBP permission of "Goal Management Access" with reference to the KBA- https://me.sap.com/notes/3204417/E , although the KBA does not mentions that this permission needs to be enabled.

And we do not think that this can be the root cause, because -
Scenario 1: When the "Goal Management Access" RBP permission is not enabled.

  • A user logs into the system and opens a performance form to add goals.
  • Upon clicking the "Add" button, an error message appears.
  • The user closes the error message and is then able to successfully add goals.
  • From this second attempt onwards, the error no longer appears.
(Note: This issue occurs randomly and does not affect all users.)

Scenario 2: When the "Goal Management Access" RBP permission is enabled.

  • Since the error from Scenario 1 does not reappear after the first occurrence, therefore the user will not see the error any more even after enabling the permission because it already appeared for the first time in previous scenario.
  • As a result, we are unable to confirm whether enabling this permission resolves the issue or not.

However, this raises a concern that if the error was indeed caused by a missing RBP permission, we would expect it to persist until the correct permissions are granted. However, in our case, the issue appears to resolve itself after the first occurrence, making it difficult to validate the root cause.

Has anyone in the community experienced a similar issue during migration to the latest Goal Management version? We would appreciate any insights or recommendations you may have.

Thank you.!!

I can see SAP have now published a KBA to say they're aware and investigating, so hopefully we get a resolution soon:

Hi Jayesh, interestingly I had a user report this issue this morning and stumbled upon this post when I searched in SAP for Me. The user in question does have the Goal Management Access RBP. Like you say, it's very hard to troubleshoot as if they click out and load up their goal plan again, they can create the goal without issue. And then at some point later when trying to create another goal, the problem comes back again.

This isn't something I've seen before (and we've been using Latest Goal Management for a couple of years now). I am going to raise a support case and hopefully SAP will then see that something needs to be investigated.

Good morning everyone,

Adding our voice to this thread: we're experiencing the exact same problem.

We've already gone through the troubleshooting steps outlined here and, unfortunately, haven't found a resolution.

I have an open SAP ticket on this matter, but it's still pending a response. As we're in a critical phase of our Goal Setting cycle, this issue is causing significant internal disruption and a high volume of inquiries.

If anyone has had success in resolving this or receives an update from SAP, please share your insights here. I will certainly post any breakthroughs from our end as well.

Thank you for your collaboration.
