Corporate Data model is always used to configure XML foundation objects like Pay Grade, Pay Range, Location etc. Be it addition of field or removal of field. As these are XML based object they cannot be changed using Configure Object Definition
Objects which can be configured using CDM are
Location, Location Group, Pay Grade, Pay Range, Pay Comp, Pay Comp Group, Geozone etc
