I have a couple of questions around the unsorted folder:
1. If a user deletes objects from their "My unsorted objects" folder would that delete them from Unsorted or are the objects in unsorted different?
2. If I were to delete a user from Enable Now, would that also delete their objects in unsorted?
I'm just looking for a way to properly delete the unsorted folder without causing issues as the folder is pretty big
Request clarification before answering.
Hi Laurent,
Deleting users has no impact on content objects.
Deleting content objects from the Unsorted folder is actually the same as Deleting normal content objects. If the object that is deleted is and only version of that content object, i.e. no other object has been created from it by copying it and pasting as a Reference, then the object is deleted and added to the Trash Can. This would mean that the object was now removed from the Unsorted folder and if the Trash Can is emptied, would be permanently removed from the Workarea and cannot be restored.
If there are other versions of the content object to be deleted from the Unsorted folder available in the content structure, i.e. the object had been copied and pasted as a Reference, then deleting the object should only remove the version in the Unsorted folder, not the other versions in the content structure. However, if I were you, I would definitely Export all content in the Workarea into a DKP file before I start deleting. This will ensure that you have a backup, just in case you manage to delete content that really is required.
Before deleting anything, I would try the following.
1. Have all authors Finish Editing all content objects in Producer. The Write Token should then be available for all objects
2. Start Editing all content objects in Manager, i.e. get the pencil on all folders in Manager
3. Finish Editing all content objects in Manager
If you are lucky, many of the content objects in Manager in the Unsorted folder will 'jump' out of the Unsorted folder and into the correct location in the content structure when you start editing. Starting editing just allows Manager to write the parent to child relationships to the Manager DB so hopefully this can occur and content that really is in the content structure will then appear in the correct location in the structure.
Regards
Shane
