Custom Payslip mash-up (from a secondary EC system) - lessons learned/suggestions?

Hi SFSF experts -

we have a client who has multiple (3) divisional EC systems. The data from the 3 systems (via interfaces) is consolidated into ONE Enterprise EC system ("passthrough system") - which in turn connects via the standard replication to ONE EC Payroll.

Our end-users will not log onto the Enterprise EC system, but only to their respective "Divisional EC" system. To make payslip self-service happen for our end users, we would like to "connect" the divisional EC via a (custom?) mash-up to the Enterprise EC Payroll system. We are seeking advice/lessons on the set up of such a connection (from a different EC then the one connected for replication) - if anyone has done this before?
