Creating an L3-L8 Approval Hierarchy

Hi,

We would like to add more management levels to our workflow approvals. However, with SuccessFactors not having an organizational hierarchy automatically saved, it's been difficult finding a way to expand our workflow approval list. I have looked into the option if using the Custom Manager in the Approver Type list, but I was only able to add one level. We currently created a dynamic role for our L2 leaders and this list is easy to maintain because it's a 1:1 relationship with employee assigned Function. Unfortunately, our L3-L8 doesn't have a 1:1 relationship with any employee attributes.

Are there any other customers that have successfully built a workflow approval list of this type and if yes, does it require a lot of maintenance and how did you configure it?

Thanks in advance!
Annie

Hi @Annie3

Sorry I was on parental leave when you posted this question and unfortunately my colleagues didn't pick up on it.

We usually don't recommend adding too many compensation forms route map steps (we recommend max 2 manager steps). If you want additional approvers we recommend using the Executive review based on RBP and leverage the new 2H 2024 "Exec review based on route step" feature to trigger permissions automatically based on route steps.

Thanks a lot !

Thanks Xavier for the information! We were looking more to building the hierarchy in EC more for job/org and/or compensation change workflows. We created workaround where we added the L3 Leader as a job relationship and added the L3 as a custom approver. This works for the short term, but we would eventually like to be able to add more levels to workflow approvals. I understand it's not best practice to add layers of approvers, but if we wanted to add at least up to an L4 that would help with what we're trying to achieve.
