Check out and Sync

Hi,

If an author save/finish-editing a project in a workarea, should this project automatically appear in the same workarea for other users if they synchronize to server ? Or should they check out objects again in order to view this project in their workarea ?

Hi lynnabb,

It depends whether the folder where the author saved a new project is already checked out in the local workareas of other authors (ones they see in their Producer). If true, the new object will appear automatically when they open Producer, or they can get it manually w/o restarting Producer by clicking the Synchronize workarea button.

If the folder where the new project was created is not already synced in one's local workarea in Producer, then the author needs to use the Check Out Objects operation.

Example

Somebody created a new project in the Tests (will be deleted) group that's already checked out in my Producer. This means I will see the new project once I Synchronize workarea, provided that person had finished editing the Tests (will be deleted) group before I run the Synchronization.

If Tests (will be deleted) is not already checked out in my Producer AND doesn't belong to any folder that is already checked out, synchronization won't help, and I need to Check Out objects from the Manager.
