Hi Erin - we had the same issue and were able to write some custom javascript to move the buttons to the middle of the screen so they did not block the chat both when it pops up.
SAP does not typically recommend custom javascript to be added and they will not support it if it breaks but from what I can see it is working as expected for now and we just make sure to check it after every release...
