Can you deactivate the step title in simulations so that only the screen title is shown?

Hello again,

i would like to know if it is possible to deactivate the step title in simulations so that only the screen title will be shown/ recorded?

So that the authors only need to maintain one Title and not twi titles in one simulation...

Thanks for a tip here!

Hi Katharina,

my understanding is that this is not possible.

But for me is not clear why you would work with the screen titles only. I think the screen title will nowhere displayed in content. I mean you can configure in the documentation settings under "project content" that the headings are coming from the "Screen Titles" but you can also set them to "non" or "Step Titles". If you define them to "Step Titles" then the headings are the same in the documentations and in the simulations control bar.

So that means that your authors just have to maintain the "Step Titles" and can ignore the "Screen Titles".

If you don't want to see the "Step Tiles" in the simulations control bar you can deactivate them in the Playback Settings. (trainer - global / Control bar/ Show Step name)

But maybe I get your question wrong 🙂

If this solved your issue please accept this answer.

Best regards, Michael

Michael is correct. However, I usually set my documents to use the Screen Title for the heading, for the specific reason that you can selectively suppress this in the documentation (Documentation > Use Title as Heading) whereas if you use the Step Name, you get a Heading for EVERY Step, which is generally overkill. (I have a Customer Improvement Request in to provide a Use Step Name as (Document) Heading (Y/N) on the Step which would obviate this, but I don't hold out hope for that ever getting done...)

Yes, it is annoying to have to maintain two fields with exactly the same information, but it is a straight copy/paste, so we're talking half a second per Step/Screen. I can usually manage that if it makes for a better deliverable.

FWIW I only select Show in Progress Bar (for the Step) and Use Title As Heading (for the Screen) at the start of each 'indivisible group of actions' (which can be very subjective) - such as "Enter the item details" (which may then cover half a dozen fields/actions). I find this provides more logical 'points' on the Progress Bar, and headings in the document.
