Hi,

We are currently updating our Author handbook but we are not sure what the best recording practices in SAP U15.

Anyone who knows what the best recording settings are when recording in Fiori?

Best

Hi Thomas,

we have a really helpful section in the Infor Center for Authoring guidelines in general, which are also applicable for SAP UI5.

https://enable-now.sap.com/ic/wa/ext/%7Etag/published/index.html?show=group!GR_F8BA0FC968CD2EB9#grou...

What I recommend in a nutshell, are the following things:

  • Make sure that you have the browser extension "Enablement Assistant" activated if you record in Chrome or Edge.
  • Usually the recording Profile "SAP UI5" should be auto selected for UI5 applications
  • Set the browser zoom to 100%
  • Define the "Recording Area" I recommend to use "Browser Content Area" as a good choice for browser based applications as your personal information like favorites are not part of the recording screen.
  • Define "Choose Size" and think what are the typical resolutions which your end-users are using for content playback (f.e. 1920x1200). If you record too big in f.e. 3840 x 2160 and your users use typically standard monitors it could end up in scrolling activities.

Hope that helps for now. Maybe other experts have additional ideas.?

Best regards, Michael

The only things I'd add onto what Michael mentions (and points to - that's a good summary) are:

  • Deselecting Allow RollOver Effects does not always work with UI5. As a best practice, I try to click on a screen object and then immediately move the cursor off the object. Usually I can do that fast enough (esp. on a cloud S/4HANA system) that the roll-over disappears before the screen is captured. (And then the cursor is automatically moved back anyway by the recorder).
  • Specific to Fiori, always record entering the full text in an input field. A lot of fields in Fiori have the 'dynamic search' available, where a picklist of matching entries is shown below the field that the user can select from. Explain that feature once, in the Navigation training, and then always enter the full input text in all other simulations - it will make the training clearer, and the screen captures more logical.
  • Related to that, for String Input, I always enter the text and then press Enter to confirm (not Tab or just clicking out of the field). For some reason, if you just Tab/click off, it seems to often record the action as "The xxx field is cleared" and/or doesn't capture the full text. If you use Enter to confirm, that seems to work best (and I can edit the 'Confirm on...' on the back-end)

Thank you both! I will roughly translate most of it into Danish and publish it to our Author manual.
