It's that time of the year when we release enhancements to our SAP Best Practices content for SAP SuccessFactors HCM. With the latest 1H 2024 release, we are excited to announce that we have made a lot of updates to the standard configuration content, documentation, and sample employee data. Here are the key highlights in the SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central area (without Time Management).

Reimagined Enrollment for US Benefits

The 1H 2024 release brings a reimagined enrollment experience for US Benefits. This new interface focuses on enhancing user interaction and simplifying the enrollment process. In its first phase, the update covers Insurance and Savings Plans, providing a more intuitive and efficient way for employees to manage their benefits. This enhancement is part of SAP's ongoing efforts to improve user experience and streamline benefits administration. The Best Practices content now incorporates this new enrollment experience out of the box.

Here is a snapshot of the new UI.

New validation rules for Dependents Management

The following validations are added:

  • For Malaysia, a validation rule to validate the passport number of the dependents
  • For Singapore, a validation rule for the field Confinement Number - the rule should allow a number from 1 to 99 else it should throw an error message
  • For Thailand, a validation rule for the fields - Spouse's Father's ID Number and Spouse's Mother's ID Number
  • For the USA, a validation rule for the field "Non Taxable" - field is allowed only for 'Domestic Partner' and 'Child of Domestic' relationships, while for others, it should throw an error message

Rule Scenario Updates

We have been updating the application-based rule scenarios since the last few releases. In 1H 2024, we migrated most of the business rules in Employee Central Core country localizations to the relevant rule scenarios. These changes include migrating the business rules from "basic" to "onChangeEvent" and "newHireScenario" scenarios in most cases. However, the "basic" scenario still applies to some business rules - these will be migrated in the upcoming releases.

Simplification of EC Core Alerts

As per the recommendation, the alert business rules are simplified now. The alerts sent one month and one week before the probation end date are triggered by two different business rules, respectively. A similar strategy is adopted for alert rules related to contract end date. Here are the details:

  • SFCC_Alert_Probation_Reminder is split into SFCC_Alert_Probation_Reminder_1Month and SFCC_Alert_Probation_Reminder_7Days
  • SFCC_AlertForContractEnd is split into SFCC_AlertForContractEnd_1Month and SFCC_AlertForContractEnd_7Days

New Event Reason for Pensioners

Per the product recommendation, a new Event Reason, TERIDEATP (Death of Pensioner), is added to the SAP Best Practices content. This event reason will work with an already-existing Event Reason TERECPP (Retirement with company pension) for a pensioner. This addition will allow customers to capture the correct data for their pensioners and help with accurate reporting.

The Supervisor field is mandatory in Job Information

As per the feedback we got recently, the following changes have been made to the Supervisor field:

  • It is made mandatory
  • If the customer deploys best practices content for Position Management, this field is read-only.

New Workflow for Work Order Extensions

A new workflow has been introduced to extend work orders for contingent workers. This workflow, initiated by the supervisor, streamlines the process of managing extensions, making it easier to handle contract renewals. This update is particularly beneficial for organizations with a large contingent workforce, as it automates and simplifies the extension process, reducing administrative overhead and improving operational efficiency.

Changes to Net Gains in India Tax Declaration

Significant changes have been made to processing net gains for the India Income Tax Declaration. The changes in the configuration are in the Investment Types and Declaration Types. These updates aim to ensure compliance with local tax regulations while simplifying the declaration process for users. By refining the handling of net gains, SAP SuccessFactors helps users navigate the complexities of tax filing with greater ease and accuracy, ensuring that all necessary information is captured and processed correctly.

Renaming of Permission Roles

In alignment with the SAP SuccessFactors Process Library, the names of Permission Roles in Employee Central Core, Company Structure Overview, and Position Management have been updated. This renaming effort enhances clarity and consistency across the platform, making it easier for users to understand and manage permission roles.

New Workflow for Reporting a No-Show

A new workflow has been added to address situations where employees fail to show up on their first day. This workflow is automatically triggered in such cases, allowing HR teams to respond and take necessary actions quickly. This addition helps organizations manage no-show scenarios more effectively, ensuring minimized disruptions and appropriate follow-up actions are taken promptly.

New Business Rule for Future Birth Dates

A new business rule has been implemented to check if an entered birth date is in the future during employee data changes. This rule prevents erroneous data entry, ensuring only valid birth dates are recorded. By enforcing this validation, SAP SuccessFactors helps maintain data integrity and accuracy, reducing the likelihood of errors in employee records.

Updates to Sample Employee Data

The sample employee data has been updated to include new localizations for Time Off in Finland and Ireland. These additions expand the regional coverage of sample data, making it more relevant and valuable for organizations operating in these countries. The updated sample data helps organizations better understand and configure the Time Off module to meet local requirements.

In addition, as per the feedback we got recently, the field "second manager" has been removed from all the sample employees.

SAP Help Portal

We have been improving the structure of the Best Practices content for SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central on the SAP Help Portal. The changes include ease of navigation and quick access to documentation. A user can review the complete Best Practices content for one or more countries using the country dropdown, as shown in the screenshot below.
