DON’T MISS SAPRadio Changing the Game with HR Episode 6: "Can technology help business move beyond bias?” – on Changing the Game with HR Radio – May 5, 2017 at 11 AMPT / 2 PM ET – Follow us on Twitter: #SAPRadio

This show is part of a 10-episode SAP SuccessFactors radio series that started on January 19 and will continue to air every three weeks on Thursdays at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET on the VoiceAmerica network Business Channel, SAP Radio Changing the Game with HR. The series will run through August 2017. All shows will be recorded and available for download or live playing via the website. Our last show aired on April 13, 2017, titled: Are Machines going to replace the human side of business? is available here.

There are 150 different unconscious biases at play in the human brain at any given time. These biases form a reality that is not questioned without a catalyst. As bias continues to take center stage when it comes to the biggest challenges facing leaders who want to cultivate inclusive work cultures, HR is investing in programs and technology to aid in attracting, retaining, and developing diverse talent.

Despite spending billions of dollars on training programs aimed at increasing awareness around the importance of diversity, companies still struggle to reap the benefits. While humans may be limited by bias, machines are not. We often hear that there is a talent shortage. The data tells a different story. Millions of eligible qualified workers remain unemployed around the globe. Yet, in the US alone, the US Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that there were nearly 6 million unfilled job openings as of last summer. Emerging technology, including cognitive computing and gamification, can help source candidates based on credential and culture data point criteria shown to represent optimal matches.

The challenges don’t stop with recruiting. In the technology industry, women leave at twice the rate of men. And, despite the fact the world’s population is increasingly diverse, wealthy white males still hold most decision-making seats in business and government. These types of numbers have not changed. Perhaps it is time to look at the challenge differently. For example, as HR considers how managers make decisions during performance and calibration exercises, technology can be used as a ‘nudge’ technique to interrupt rote decision-making that often leads to the same profile of people being considered for advancement. Our world is changing; how we carry out and enable HR decisions across the business must change too.

The radio show will offer a new perspective on the war for talent and how innovations in workplace tools can help HR leaders create truly inclusive environment. Topics include:

  • why unconscious bias matters

  • challenges with creating diversity in the workplace

  • how companies can use technology to detect, prevent, and eliminate bias
