This blog post will provide information on a unique feature available in Embedded Analytics for SAP Commissions i.e., Linked Analysis.
Introduction: Linked Analysis – As the name suggests, this feature enables users to dynamically interact with the story/dashboard to analyze, explore, understand data based on the links between visualizations or widgets. It allows to apply a filter on multiple visualizations by selecting data points in a visualization.
To keep you interested in the topic, here is a quick example –
In the above gif, there are 3 visualizations i.e. Payment per BU (Business Unit), Overall payments for each Period and Top 10 Earnings. Linked analysis has been enabled for first 2 widgets. Based on that, users can find following insights
- Click on any BU – User can determine overall payment for each period and Top 10 earnings for that business unit
- Click on any period – User can determine payments per BU and Top 10 earnings for that particular period.
In summary, data points, on which user clicks, acts as filter for linked visualizations/widgets.
Important note -: To apply linked analysis, the visualizations/widgets in the analysis must be based on the same model, or the models must be combined/connected by linking dimensions. To find out more information on how to combine models, you can watch video available on microlearning opensap site.
Steps to Apply: Select a widget in your story and from More Action, click on Linked Analysis. Select one of the interaction option and apply.
Interaction Options and Settings:
There are 4 interaction option available as shown in the above screenshot
Only this widget |
It is the default option. AS the name suggests, any filtering or drilling on data points effects this widget only. It does not impact any other widget. |
All widgets in Story |
Filtering on this widget will effectively apply the same filter to all other widgets on different pages of the story based on the widget’s model or other models which are connected through linked dimensions. If any widget’s models are not linked to the current widget’s model (widget where linked analysis is being applied) then linked analysis or filtering won’t apply

This interaction option provides an setting ‘Filter On Data Point Selection’: Essentially filter gets applied when you click on any data points rather than applying the filter.
