Story report is part of the People Analytics solution, and it's based on the integration of SAP SuccessFactors HCM suite with SAP Analytics Cloud. It is a powerful tool that uses charts, visualizations, text and images to present data.

This article explains how to utilize story reports in PGM and shares some tips of troubleshooting.

Part 1 how to build a story report using form audit trail as an example

A story mainly involves building a query and using the query to create the report. Guide on how to Creating a Story Report

1. Go to the Reporting module. The Report Center page appears.
2. Click New, and select Story.
3. The "Select Design Mode Type" pop-up messages appears. Select "Optimized Design Experience.

4. select a connection (for non-learning schema): SAPSFSFREP (SAP SuccessFactors Reporting)

5. The Query Designer page appears.

6. Build a query: select a schema from the right panel; drag and drop the schema to the left screen. *Recommend starting with "All templates".

7. Expand the tables and select desired columns: Click on “+” icon to expand related tables; Click on “–“ icon to hide related tables; or click on “x” icon to delete tables.

How to expand the tables to get audit trail columns:

8. Preview query to check data.
9. Click on finish, give it a name, then back to story page to build widgets.
10. On Page 1 in the story designer, from the Insert menu, add widgets to create your story visualization.

11. The Builder section of the Design pane appears for the selected widget.

12. Select one of your queries as the Data Source for the widget.
13. Select the type of chart or table that you want to create.

14. Select Measures and Dimensions that appear on your chart.

Below is the final effect, a donut type chart which counts the number of records by audit trail actions:

Part 2 troubleshooting tips

If you run into below issues when using Story reports:

If further assistance is needed, please open a case to Support and provide the below information for investigation:

  1. Company id where the issue happens.
  2. support access with full access to admin tool including proxy (please refer to the kba for how-to 2088892 - How to Grant Support Access to SAP SuccessFactors Support Staff )
  3. Report name
  4. Proxy as which user to check the issue (does it occur to a specific user or all users)
  5. Detailed description of the issue you are facing (your expected behavior of the feature and current product actual behavior)
  6. When did the issue start
  7. Is it consistent or intermittent
  8. Screenshot of the issue
