Let’s face it—building a talent strategy can sometimes feel like trying to assemble IKEA furniture without the instructions. You’ve got all the pieces (jobs, skills, competencies), but figuring out how they fit together? That’s where the fun or frustration starts.
Enter Talent Intelligence Hub, part of SAP SuccessFactors Platform, which means it's completely free. This powerful tool is ready to transform how you connect jobs, skills, and growth opportunities within the organization.
2024 has been a transformative year for the SAP SuccessFactors HCM suite, marked by significant innovations, strategic partnerships, and advancements in AI and GenAI use cases, including Joule and more. Here's a link to Dan Beck's post on recent innovations. As the year draws to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on Talent Intelligence Hub (TIH) and share a few key strategies for successful adoption in this blog.
FYI - While TIH is not an official acronym for talent intelligence hub, I have used it in this blog for simplicity and ease of reference.
Note: I am collaborating with the HCM Product & Solution Architecture team to develop an Architecture Leading Practice (ALP) for TIH, with a plan to publish in Jan 2025. The ALP will offer detailed insights to support your TIH adoption journey. In the meantime, I encourage you to explore my earlier blogs on TIH, which discuss its foundational concepts and core principles.

Like any great tool, success isn’t just about turning it on and hoping for magic. Wouldn’t that be nice? It’s about laying the groundwork—aligning strategies, mapping journeys, and finding the right building blocks to make it all work. So, let’s dive into how to get your organization ready for the Talent intelligence hub.
It starts with defining your skill strategy: identifying opportunities across the talent lifecycle to drive internal mobility, skills-based hiring, or workforce planning. It's essential that you have a clear objective of what (process)you are trying to accomplish by infusing skill! Start from there.
Next, job strategy—building a solid job architecture with well-structured families, roles, profiles, and codes aligned to skills and competencies. You don't have to define a job architecture for the entire organization before adopting TIH, start small with one business unit or department.
Once the groundwork is set, it’s all about finding stepping stones—evaluating current processes, selecting an MVP, and leveraging tools or partner integrations to kickstart the journey.
To bring it all together, journey mapping helps visualize ideal career growth for employees and other personas like managers and HR, aligning expectations across the board. And, of course, no strategy is complete without a solid plan for pilot, testing, iteration, and refinement.
Before diving into the TIH, it’s a good idea to prep your data: this includes setting up the pre-requisite data (highlighted in the diagram), cleaning existing data, if needed, and polishing up other key datasets that, while not mandatory, are essential for creating a solid job strategy to complement your skills strategy.
Why does this matter? Most HCM AI use cases rely heavily on this foundational data. TIH, powered by SAP Business AI, thrives on information like job data, skills data, and the connections between skills, job roles, and employees. As with any AI solution, it’s all about the data—if it’s messy, the system can’t deliver accurate, personalized recommendations.
Clean data equals smart results, so start with a solid foundation! Start small, with one job family or a handful of skills in the library, but start with clean data.
As we wrap up 2024, remember that adopting Talent intelligence hub isn’t about getting everything perfect right away—it’s about making thoughtful progress. Start small, learn from each step, and let those insights guide your next move. With TIH, you’re not just upgrading your talent strategy; you’re setting the foundation for a future where skills and opportunities align seamlessly. So, take that first step, embrace the process, and watch the transformation unfold. Here’s to smarter strategies and an empowered workforce in the year ahead! I wish you all a very happy 2025!
Success mantra for adopting TIH - Start small, start now, and stay ahead & remember clean data is your secret weapon!
