SuccessFactors Is Listening!

SuccessFactors 2H 2020, a customer centric – went live on preview this October 16. The release is full of innovations and the most awaited. The reason I called this as the most awaited, as many of the enhancements coming in 2H, at least from Learning point of view were requests raised by customers/consultants in recent times and SAP SuccessFactors team made it in no time. One of the best examples would be Zoom support for VLS.

This blog, I will talk about the key SuccessFactors LMS updates that you should consider: I was as usual very excited while testing these and found a glitch as well. Let me not keep you guessing, here it is:

  1. Removal of Flash-Based Administration User Interface: Good Bye Adobe Flash! Yes you read it right, as projected, the Adobe Flash-based administration user interface is now removed and now you can only have SAP Fiori administration user interface.

  • This is an universal update.

  1. Personalized Recommendations to Include Collections: Personalized Recommendations now displaying collections so that users can bookmark them for themselves or recommend them to their peers. This still remains under early adopter, where customer has to signup to see this live. The personalized recommendations engine has been enhanced so that it can recommend learning collections to learners to provide them with a holistic view of all types of learning content

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. Add New Items: Now customers get an improved user experience when adding items in the new Learning Administration UI.

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. New Tokens Added to Certificate of Completion Template: This has been too a common request from many customers. SuccessFactors is listening, here is the proof, now you can see few new fields as tokens to customize or create a Certification of Completion template for Item and Program report categories.

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. Course Home Redesign for Blended Content: SuccessFactors redesigned the way users launch and complete a blended course on mobile, tablet, and web-based platforms to improve the user experience for Learning. This includes updates to the way a learner registers for a class and launches the online content for a blended course. This is part of Admin Opt-In functionality. Still not many customers are using CourseHome. It is expected that CourseHome will be universal going forward.

Even though this has been announced, you will see validation error as soon as you set it as true, both the screenshots can be seen below. This will be available effective December 11, 2020.

Post 11 December, this is how it looks:

  • Configuration Type: Admin Opt-in

  1. Default Filter for Assigned Items: The Assigned Items for a User are now filtered by default using the “Other Needs and Requirements filters”. The Completed Items do not appear in the default filtered view on the User entity page.

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. Search by Status for Assignment Profile Tab for Item and Curricula: Now you can search by Status in the Assignment Profiles tab for both the Item and Curricula entities. The search box was previously labelled as Search by ID or Description and now is displayed as Search. The search experience has also been enhanced, which was previously limited to searching only by ID & Description.

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. Enhanced Security for Plateau Report Designer: Looks like PRD is going to say longer than expected ?. As you all know Plateau Report Designer (PRD) was a standalone tool, which is now been integrated with SAP SuccessFactors Learning. The user can access the PRD tool from Learning Administration. The new authentication process ensures secure access to Plateau Report Designer when accessing from Learning Administration. The password generated will be valid for 2 days from the time of generation. Also the good this is, you can still use the Admin password in the PRD. Both ways will work for authenticating the admin in PRD.

You can now directly launch the PRD from LMS. If you have old version, still without installing the new PRD you shall be able to launch, you will see a warning error. In order to use this feature with the older PRD version, download the latest PRD and follow the instructions to update the windows configuration.

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. Proctored & Printed Exams in Assessments: These were previously available in old interface but now SAP SuccessFactors made these available even in the new admin UI. An assessment can now require that the instructor enter a proctor code in order for a student to begin the exam, and localized messages can be added to the exam to communicate clear instructions to the student and also can now be printed so that the student can be administered the exam in hard copy format, and their scores can be entered manually by the administrator using the scoring interface.

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. Assignment Profile Rules Support Comma-Separated Values: As an administrator, you will be like Yay! Yes, administrators can now paste a comma-separated list of values into a Rules input field for an Assignment Profile in the new Learning Administration user interface.

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. Learning Program Enhancements: SAP SuccessFactors Learning now features several enhancements includes below:

    1. View all programs associated with an item in a table and navigate the associated programs.

    2. Filter item search results by using the program filter.

    3. Filter library search results by using the Program filter.

    4. Add new programs on the user entity.

    5. Remove programs from the user entity.

    6. Delete programs from completion history

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. Updated Sorting for Users Entity: The Sort option for the Users entity now includes new options to enable users to further sort items by date.

    1. Sort Completed Items by Completion date

    2. Sort Assigned Items by Required Date or Assigned Date

    3. Sort Assignment Profiles by Date Added

  • Configuration Type: Universal

  1. Support for IAS Identity Management: External users can now use SAP Cloud Platform Identity Authentication (IAS) to authenticate to SAP SuccessFactors Learning. Existing users that previously authenticated natively, can now be migrated to IAS. But, do remember, its currently available only to customers who sign up for the early adopter program.

  • Configuration Type: Admin Opt-In

  1. License User Type Added to User Search Selector and Connector: License User Type is available as a new search option when you search for users in Learning. The types of License User Types are Active and Functional users, who are added using the SAP SuccessFactors User connector.

User connector supports the two values of ACTIVE and FUNCTIONAL, which are case-sensitive. You can however, use custom values for this using the following configurations:

  1. field.transform.data.LICENSE_USER_TYPE.ACTIVE=Active,active

  2. field.transform.data.LICENSE_USER_TYPE.FUNCTIONAL=Functional,functional

  • Configuration Type: Admin Opt-In

On UI:

  1. Zoom Supported for Virtual Learning: The last but not the least, Zoom supported for VLS. This has been the most discussed topic or request in all the SuccessFactors communities. Once again, a proof that SuccessFactors is listening! Hope to see Microsoft Teams support soon. There is a glitch in xml, hope SAP corrects it soon.

  • Configuration Type: Admin Opt-In
