When it comes to SAP training, a lot of learners still prefer classroom training over alternate platforms like eLearning. There are two main reasons for this. Firstly, getting proficient in SAP requires a lot of practice - a theoretical course cannot do justice to the vast number of modules and features that SAP has to offer. Secondly, every major city in the world today has SAP training centers that have managed to establish their reputation among the community.

But over the years, a lot of software training has moved online and this is true about SAP as well. In many industries, eLearning has taken over classroom training because of the advantages they provide.

What eLearning Has To Offer

One of the biggest advantages with eLearning over classroom training is the self-paced learning structure provided by the former. A classroom course is structured to be completed in a set number of sessions. This puts slow learners at a disadvantage. With eLearning, SAP trainees may learn at their own pace.

The second biggest advantage is that it lets learners train from anywhere and at anytime. Classroom training sessions require learners to be available at a specified time each day and this is not always feasible. With eLearning, the learner may access the courses at their most preferred time and often from the comfort of their own home.

Finally,SAP’s eLearning courses are often priced way lower than classroom courses. Classroom based SAP training courses are expensive not only because great trainers charge a higher fee, but also because classrooms can only take in a finite number of learners at any point. With eLearning, it is theoretically possible for one trainer to simultaneously reach out to thousands of learners thus bringing down the cost of access.

Challenges With eLearning

Unfortunately, not all eLearning courses are built alike. A number of online SAP training programs are PowerPoint based and do not serve their purpose. These training programs are often regarded supplementary to classroom training.

The effectiveness of SAP eLearning depends to a great deal on the way the course is packaged. The best way to train learners on SAP is to provide them with interactive simulations of a live SAP environment. This, along with voice over instructions, assignments and interactive channel between the trainer and the learner would prove to be the best way to train users on SAP.

Implementing an SAP eLearning Package

The most recommended way to build an SAP eLearning course is through a learning management system. Modern LMS tools come with a host of features like the ability to host video conferences, enable live chat, enabling live classrooms, introduce gamified learning techniques, offer assignments, conduct tests and so on. These systems may be accessed both over desktop and mobile systems enabling access anytime and from anywhere. These platforms provide trainers with the unique tools to provide a simulated SAP environment to learners without the need for expensive infrastructure.

Some trainers have gone a step ahead and have integrated such interactive simulated eLearning system with a live SAP environment. This allows learners to interact in a real setting, make mistakes and feel the consequences for that.

Learning by doing is a big part of the SAP learning process and this is one of the reasons why classroom training programs have been so popular. But with such interactive eLearning programs showing the way, we are likely to see a future where eLearning could be a much more effective way to train employees on SAP than classroom courses could ever do.
