Context: We recently encountered a business requirement where the customer wanted their Succession Planners to designate some nominees as backups for specific positions, regardless of their readiness levels, such as 'Ready within 1-2 years' and 'Emergency Replacement'
Based on community influence idea, SAP SuccessFactors released “Emergency Covers for a Position or Talent Pool” as a new feature in 2H 2023 release. This document explains the step-by-step procedure to achieve the above requirement.
Prerequisites
- You're using the MDF position-based nomination method.
- You've enabled MDF Talent Pools and defined the MDF Talent Pool Object.
Steps to enable
- Go to Admin Center >Nominations Setup.
- Select Allow labeling nominees as Emergency Cover.
- Save your change.
Outcome
- When a succession planner adds or edits a nomination from a position card, they have the option to designate the nominee as an emergency cover for the position. An icon is displayed next to the readiness rating on the position card and the Succession Org Chart to indicate this status.
- Similarly, when adding or editing a talent pool nomination, the succession planner can choose to set the nominee as an emergency cover for the talent pool.
Important Notes:
- Emergency Cover is an optional, boolean-type field with the default value No, while Readiness is a required field that can be configured with more than two values such as Ready in 3-5 Years, Ready in 2-3 Years, Ready Now, and Emergency Replacement.
- A nominee's emergency cover value is independent from their readiness rating. For example, an emergency cover for a position can be someone whose readiness rating is Ready in 2-3 Years or Ready Now.
