Introduction

Please find below the questions I asked a few days ago to a customer in a one hour call to understand the complexity and as a consequence the level of effort of integrating 3 non-EC Compensation templates and 2 non-EC Variable Pay templates to Employee Central which went live for them recently.

 

 

Variable Pay templates

 

  • Earnings
    • Are target bonus amounts based on actual earnings or contractual salary data ?
      • If actual earnings:
        • Does the payroll system have the data on Target Bonus % changes ?
        • Is there a report already built in Payroll/ABAP that can provide the actual numbers ?
        • Is there a will from leadership to move away from actual earnings and use contractual salary ?
      • If contractual salary data: are both the Annualized Salary data and Target Bonus % data currently loaded in EC and with effective dates covering the entire past fiscal year ?

 

 

Compensation templates

 

  • Data consistency 
    • Are there Compensation templates where data gets loaded as of different effective dates (for example Salary used for merit % calculation is as of 12/31/2025 but Job Title is shown as of 2/1/2025) ?
    • Do you use Global Assignment or Concurrent Employment features ?
    • Are Pay Ranges loaded in "Manage Pay Job and Org structure" ?
    • Are they used to trigger Compa Ratio calculation in Comp Info ? (meaning have they been tested on top of being loaded)
    • Is Compa Ratio or Range Penetration used in some of the existing Compensation templates ?

 

 

All templates

 

  • Eligibility rules across templates
    • Is there data used in eligibility rules that currently lives outside of Employee Central ? (excluding UserID exceptions). 
    • Is there a need to use data from the Time Off module (if in use) to exclude by userID in Compensation or prorate records in Variable Pay templates ?
  • Publish back to EC
    • Is there one or more of template for which we will need to build complex publish back logic, for example different event dates or even reasons for different countries ?
    • Do we want different event reasons in case of just merit vs merit + lumpsum etc.
  • Statements
    • Assumption for this integration work is that statements will not be edited as they get their data from the worksheets that will be integrated to EC. Please confirm.
