In this article we will discuss how a contingent worker is hired as an employee via SuccessFactors Onboarding and how this may affect the functional user license in SuccessFactors.

There are number of ways a user in SuccessFactors Employee Central can be a functional user:

  • They do not have access to SuccessFactors platform i.e. no login permissions in RBP.
  • They are seasonal worker with a length of service lest than 1 year.
  • Their details are mastered in an external HRIS.
  • They are contingent worker.

The full and functional user license only applies to SuccessFactors Employee Central.

A contingent worker will always be a functional user whether they have access to SuccessFactors platform or not.

In the scenario where you have a contingent worker who is ‘converting’ to an employee, this requires a termination and a hire record.  If you initiate onboarding for the contingent worker, they will complete their onboarding record for their new ‘employee’ record by switching the employment profile switcher.  Clearly for them to do this they will need access to SuccessFactors.  If they do not have access to SuccessFactors and access is given this WILL NOT switch them to a ‘full user license’ as they are a contingent worker, and all contingent workers are classified as functional users.
