What is the SAP SuccessFactors Diagnostics Tool?

The Employee Central Diagnostic Tool is a self-service feature that helps HR Administrators, Implementation Consultants and Customer Support teams identify and resolve system issues quickly. Whether it's a failed workflow, a misfiring rule, or a configuration inconsistency, the tool offers visibility into what's happening behind the scenes - without needing to comb through backend logs.

Key Benefits

  • Workflow & Rule Tracing: Understand exactly which rules and workflows triggered during transactions like New Hire or ESS/MSS events.
  • Centralized Services Transactions (Employee Data Save Transactions): Trace how data changes are processed and spot issues in real-time. And how save rules are executed in detail and sequence.
  • Proactive Troubleshooting: Catch misconfigurations early and reduce dependency on external support.

How It Works

This tool is built leveraging the Centralized Services Feature which was incrementally delivered for all EC entities in last 3 years.

When Should You Use It?

Use the Diagnostic Tool when:

  • A workflow fails to trigger, or routes incorrectly.
  • Business rules don't behave as expected during a hire, transfer, or data change.
  • You want to validate configuration changes in a test environment.
  • You're preparing logs and insights for a support ticket.
  • You need to know what the reason for a field value change was when you actually changed another field.
  • You want to proactively audit rule execution and system behavior.

Want to try it?

  1. Head to Admin Center > Diagnostic Tool in your SAP SuccessFactors environment, choose the type of transaction you with to analyze (e.g. Centralized Services or Workflows).

  2. Enable tracing using the link in landing page if you want to capture save transactions. For workflows trace capturing this enablement is not required.

  3. Next, reproduce the issue by saving changes in Employee's Data- any HRIS/EC entity like Job, personal, compensation information with right Role-based permissions enabled for you.
  4. Go back to the Diagnostic Tool and search for your recent transaction by entering 'Requested By' and today's date.
  5. Select the transaction you want to analyze and review Snapshot view for field changes or Rule Execution View to analyze rule executions during the transaction.
