In this blog I would like to talk about one of the recent release of recruitment marketing "Standard Site URL" which benefits customers to no longer maintain DNS and purchase SSL.

Standard Site URL in RMK:

As we all know that SSL certificate ensures secure communication between career site and recruiting application. Maintaining SSL certificate is mandatory for any production instance to progress with the go live of CSB.

Till this release for any implementation, we create the SSL certificate in two ways details below:

SSL Certificates Options

The page displays two options you can use to install SSL:

  • Option 1 where you fill out a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) form that you use to obtain an SSL certificate from a certificate authority.
  • Option 2 allows you to upload an SSL certificate that you obtained using your own CSR.

SAP has introduced a new release along with the above process by providing clients with an alternative option called “Standard Site URLs for Career Sites”.

By using this release update, clients can now choose to use a standard URL for your career site with a generic SAP domain, so that customers no longer have to maintain the DNS and SSL certificate because SAP maintains DNS and SSL certificate for the site.

Example - <subdomain>.jobs.hr.cloud.sap, where subdomain is unique to its organization.

When creating the sub domain, one can always check its availability by clicking on the button “Check Availability” shown in the picture below making sure that the subdomain can be used for the site url.

Procedure to create standard site URL:

To configure a standard site URL in Career Site Builder, go to Settings > Site Configuration and open the Site URL tab.

The process of transitioning from a custom site URL to a standard site URL. Refer to the points below.

  1. Configure the Standard Site URL and save.
  2. If you use an internal career site powered by Career Site Builder, update the SAML 2.0 configuration in your identity provider so that internal candidates can access the site at the new URL with single sign-on.
  3. Select the standard URL as Primary and save. All career site functionality now uses the standard URL with the SAP domain.
  4. Continue to maintain your secondary, custom URL during the transition period, while you manage the change within your organization. The custom URL remains active as long as the SSL certificate is valid. (The SSL Certificates tool in Career Site Builder only applies to the custom URL, whether it's primary or secondary.
  5. Plan to complete the transition within a 6-month period:
    • When the secondary custom URL is no longer needed, you can let the SSL certificate expire and remove it from the Custom Site URL field at any time.
    • After 6 months, the secondary custom URL stops redirecting automatically. To extend the transition period, you need to set up the redirection yourself and continue to maintain the SSL certificates.

Current view for configuring standard URL

To facilitate a transition from 1 URL to the other, you can maintain 2 active URLs for up to 6 months, 1 primary and 1 secondary. By default, your existing custom URL is selected as Primary. The primary URL is your site's true web address and the domain on which all other functionality is based, such as job alerts, email notifications, and integrations. The secondary URL redirects automatically to the primary URL, for up to 6 months.

The 6-month transition period starts whenever you change the Primary URL selection. When you do, other configurations that use the site URL, like job alert emails or integration settings, are automatically updated to reflect the new primary URL.

After 6 months, the secondary URL is removed automatically from the site configuration in Career Site Builder and no longer redirects automatically.

Note:

After opting for Standard URL, verify if there is any need to update the back link or site URLs maintained in the company portal or any other Corporate site if any exists.

Conclusion:

Using this new release clients can benefit by not buying SSL and maintain DNS for the career site.
