Based on my experience of implementing the Talent Intelligence Hub across multiple projects, a recurring client requirement identified during workshops was the ability to map custom attributes to job roles and automatically default them in the Growth Portfolio based on the employee’s job role. With the 2H 2025 release, SAP SuccessFactors now supports this functionality — enabling organizations to map custom attributes created in the Talent Intelligence Hub directly to job roles, thereby enhancing role-based talent insights and development alignment.
Until now, in the Talent Intelligence Hub’s Growth Portfolio, the only way to default attributes was by using job role–specific standard attributes such as Skills and Competencies. With the latest enhancement, this process becomes far more flexible — you can now automatically populate custom attributes in the Growth Portfolio based on an employee’s job role, including the expected rating levels for each attribute.
To achieve this configuration, follow the steps below:
Create a Custom Attribute
As an administrator, navigate to the Attributes Library and create a new custom attribute.
Map the Custom Attribute to a Job Role
Assign the newly created custom attribute to the relevant Job Role of the employee(Demo user)
Validate the outcome under Growth Portfolio
Navigate to the employee’s Growth Portfolio to verify that the custom attribute has been automatically populated based on the mapped job role.
Configuration : Demo Employee name - Carl Dixon ; Job role - Craft Worker
Growth Portfolio before the changes :
Configuration Steps :
1.Create a Custom Attribute : Navigate to Manage Talent Intelligence Hub and create custom attribute as below
2.Map the Custom Attribute to a Job Role
Navigate to Job Profile Content → Select the Role → Mapped Attributes (New Mapping Option).
Select your custom attribute from the attributes library and click on Add
You can even assign the expected rating for this custom attribute as below
Finally save the role .
3.Validate the outcome under Growth Portfolio
Navigate to Employee Charles Growth portfolio to check the auto populated custom attribute with the expected proficiency .
We can see the custom attribute "SF Talent Module expertise" was auto populated with the expected rating.
Benefits of this Feature :
1.With this enhancement, we can now map custom attributes to a job role — a capability that was previously limited to standard attributes such as Skills and Competency only.
2. Before this release, if we wanted certain attributes to default in the employee growth portfolio, our only option was to map the job role to skills or competencies. Custom attributes were completely out of scope. With the new functionality, we can now include custom attributes too — and set default values for them along with expected ratings.
3. If an organization has some core custom attributes that every employee should possess, we can now leverage this functionality to enforce and track them.
Limitations
Note - If you think custom attributes should be available in Job profile please create enhancement requests with SAP.
Let me know if you have any queries on this post.
