“Original Start Date” | The “Original Start Date” field is used to store the very 1st Hire date for an Employee when hiring an employee via the “Add New Employee”, the “Manage Pending Hires” or the “Manage Inactive Employee” wizards.
It gets populated with the 1st Hire record Effective Start Date that an employee account receives when he/she is Hired into the system. |
“Hire date” | This initial hire date comes from the Hire Date field but…
If the employee is Terminated and Rehired, their hire date field under “Employment Details” section will be updated to display the employee's latest hire record. |
“Seniority start date” | This date field can change as per the company's policy. E.g.: There may be a policy that the seniority date will start once the Employee completes probation of 6 months. In this case the hire date will remain as the employee's hire date, however “Seniority Date” can be updated to the hire date + 6 months. |
The Original Start Date field usually gets populated by the Effective Start Date of the Job Info "Hire" record (with the Hire event) - the very first time the employee is hired.
The system will automatically correct the “Original Start Date” to when the first Job Info Hire record is re-imported.
When you rehire an inactive employee with the new employment wizard, the Original Start Date will not be same as old employment's Original Start Date, because the new employment will have new user id and Original start date for new employment will have the Date as First Jobinfo record with Hire event.
For new hires, the seniority start date field will have the same date as the hire date.
For rehires, the seniority start date will default from the rehire date due to the following:
When rehiring the user, the system disregards the seniority that was built up in the previous employment and starts from scratch as of the rehire date.
