What is this "AUTH GROUP"?

Hi Experts,

I was reading this post: Legacy+System+Configuration+and+Risk+Analysis

And in the file LEGACY_PROFILE_PERMISSION there is a field defined as Auth Group, where the description is also "Auth Group".

Anyone who may help to explain some details on the "Auth Group" please? is it authorization object or a field in the authorization object?
